EchoGRID Second Strategic Workshop
29-30 October 2007 - CNIC – Beijing
Monday, 29 October 2007
09:15 - 09:30 Welcome
- Baoping Yan - CNIC
- Bruno Le Dantec - ERCIM
- Depei Qian - BUAA
09h30 – 09h45 Feedback from workshop one
09h45 - 13h00: Session 1: New programming paradigms
Summary: Despite tremendous efforts to design effective and usable Grid infrastructures, there is still a concern about how we can program such infrastructures with a higher level of abstraction than actual programming models do. In some extents, programming grids nowadays is very similar with what computer programmers faced before programming languages came in the light. The objective of this session will be to discuss various alternatives to program Grid infrastructures with new programming paradigms.
Chairman & rapporteur: Zhiwei Xu
Presenters:
Session 1 report
14h15 - 17h30: Session 2: Trust & Security
Summary: Trust and Security are important issues in Grid computing especially when dealing with industrial applications. Security mechanisms have to be included in all layers of Grid middleware to provide protection against malicious parties.
The objective of this session will be an overview of some important mechanisms that should be embedded within Grid middleware.
Chairman & rapporteur: Michael Wilson
Presenters:
Session 2 report
Tuesday, 30 October 2007
09h00 - 12h30: Session 3: Grid Workflow
Summary: Grid workflow concerns the automation of distributed processes in the area of scientific and business computing. It describes a pattern of interaction among services. The objective of this session will be to review the latest scientific advances in the area of Grid workflow.
Chairman & rapporteur: Thierry Priol
Presenters:
Session 3 report
13h30 - 17h15: Session 4: Grid Middleware for Industrial applications
Summary: Several Grid middleware systems have been designed and implemented such as Globus, Unicore, gLite, CNGrid, CROWN. The objective of this session is to show the latest user experiences using them with industrial applications.
Chairman & rapporteur: Thomas Fahringer
Presenters:
Session 4 report
Joint meeting: EchoGrid, Bridge, GridComp
Wednesday 31 October 2007 - CNIC – Beijing
09h00 - 09h10 - Welcome by General director of CNIC
09h40 - 10h40 - EC projects presentation:
11h00 - 12h50 - Panel: Middleware presentations and discussions
Moderator: Thierry Priol
This panel will compare some middlewares analyzing their pros and cons to run e-science and industrial applications. A questionnaire was agreed before the session to make the comparison easier.
